North Carolina might not be the first place you think of when you think spa getaway - but maybe it should be. There currently are three high-class spas in the Raleigh area that offer first-class services and amenities.
Pinehurst Resort, host of the 1999 and 2005 U.S. Open, is often thought of as a golf resort alone but lately has been getting noticed for its spa offerings. Pinehurst opened its $13 million, 31,000 square-foot spa in 2002 and offers guests more than 40 different types of good ole' fashioned southern comfort. Treatments include the Magnolia Mud Wrap, Mint Julep Wrap, the Carolina Peach Nourisher and the Gentleman's Pinehurst Facial.
The Grove Park Inn is a $40 million, 40,000 square-foot, multi-level facility with 4,000tons of native granite inside and out. The Inn offers a mineral pool with underwater speakers, two therapeutic waterfall pools, an outdoor pool, hot and cold plunge pools in the locker rooms, and a lap pool with a rock-encased fireplace. Treatments include The Heaven Series; Fire, Water and Light; Sanctuary of the Senses Facial; or Aromatherapy Massage.
The Westglow Spa offers guests its treatments at the Life Enrichment Center, a European-type destination spa with a holistic approach to weight loss, stress management and fitness. The 10,000 square-foot facility offers a full array of fitness equipment, indoor pool, whirlpool, saunas and a salon. Treatments include the Blue Ridge Body Wrap, Grandfather Stone Therapy, reflexology, aromatherapy and lymphatic drainage.
