Health Insurance Catching on to the Benefits of Spa
BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and Companion Healthcare have taken a progressive step in patient care by adding several area day spas to Natural Blue,™ a complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) program offering members discounts on several CAM services, including massage therapy, chiropractic care, acupuncture, and vitamins and supplements.
Members are now eligible for discounted treatments at several South Carolina spas, including Faces Day Spa in Hilton Head; Grace Day Spa in West Columbia; Logan Raye in Columbia; Heavenly Skin in Florence; The Spa at Charleston in Charleston; and The Garden Gate Day Spa & Salon in Mount Pleasant.
"Incorporating spas into our Natural Blue program reflects our steady commitment to help our members say healthy by focusing on preventive care," said David Boucher, Blue Cross' assistant vice-president for healthcare services. "We have responded to our members' requests for more complementary or alternative wellness services that help reduce stress and prevent illness."
The spas and other CAM vendors participating in Natural Blue are approved by American WholeHealth Networks, Inc., thought to be the largest complementary health and wellness company in the U.S.
