A Blending of Cultures
Not long ago, entering a day spa was a pretty predictable event. Your options, while relaxing and therapeutic, were generally the same no matter where you went. A day at the spa might include a deep tissue or Swedish massage, a pedicure and maybe a facial. But times have changed and spa menus have diversified and grown to blend the best ingredients from various cultures.
Walking into a spa today you will find the same staple items as well as hot stone massage, Hawaiian Lomi-Lomi, a Vischy shower treatment or a Thai yoga massage. Many spas have discovered the advantages of offering clients a wide variety of services by borrowing from other cultures to create a unique experience.
For example, the Hawaiian Lomi-Lomi massage technique is a fluid motion covering the whole body in repeated, rhythmic strokes with the essences of plumeria and gardenia. The Vischy shower uses water jets, scented oils, sea salts and massage.
Your geographic location is no longer a barrier to enjoying exotic spa treatments, as many spas have brought these cultures to cities from coast to coast.
